An hour or so later, I was starting to feel far more positive about that ability. Mainly because Zander and Draven had agreed on one element—I couldn’t be stuck in Broken House again. My soul couldn’t be tied to it because Desmond owned it, and there was no way to break a contract like that unless Desmond was killed.

Dean seemed far from appeased, still worked up by what needed to be done, but my ability to step foot in the place without being trapped enabled us to focus on the most important element: how to kill Mr. Black for good.

“The bastard has survived everything,” Zander hissed in reaction to Draven recalling several large-scale conflicts Mr. Black had faced successfully. The issue came down to his reservoir of power—even when the asshole was injured, he was able to heal fairly easily.

We’d have one shot to do this. Our only advantage was the element of surprise.

We were currently sitting around the large coffee table in the main room of the suite. Several maps were spread out in front of us, mainly illustrations of the Kingdom of Pain, and more importantly, its city center. Unfortunately, there wasn’t nearly as much concrete information as we would have liked—that type of secrecy was probably how he had survived for so long.

“I’ve never seen someone successfully go against him,” Draven grumbled, “but I’ve also never seen a siren go up against him.”

Zander tilted his head and then nodded, seeming to consider something. “Lorcan, you don’t need to kill Mr. Back. Not through one-on-one combat. You need to break the bonds he has to the realm and the souls there—I can almost guarantee that he’s purely surviving off of those. If you cut off the source of his power, he becomes a normal demon—one that can be killed as easily as any other.”

“And how do I do that?”

“In theory, you should be able to use your music to level the building from the inside. I assume his magic is held there,” Zander replied.

My eyebrows went up. “Assuming you want me to literally level the building, am I going to be crushed? I would say to death…” I drew out with a small, dark smirk, “but I know that’s not possible.”

“Leave that to me.” He nodded with determination. “I’ll be there the entire time, and outside of breaking the bonds, I should be able to help”

Well, shit. I guess this was happening.

“Let’s do this.” I looked outside, realizing it was very early morning. “How long do we need before we’re prepared to go?”

“Maybe an hour at most,” Desmond said.

I met all of their gazes. “Are we ready to do this?”

All of my men stared back at me, and I could feel the hesitation through our bonds. Not because of our abilities, but because of the danger we would face.

Oddly, my siren and I didn’t feel anxious. We should have, considering that we were going back to Broken House and facing Mr. Black, but all I felt was an unparalleled sense of determination.
